Winding Down with Brussel Sprouts

We've been eating dinner on the deck lately.  It's a nice way to unwind and relax. The kitties join us, watching the birds and breathing in some fresh air while hubby and I share a meal and talk about our day.  We didn't put a staircase on our deck :: we wanted the kitties to be able to go out without the risk of escape.  It's works pretty well...they each had one "incident" long ago but everyone respects their boundaries now.

Dinner on the deck this particular night included Brussel sprouts.  Truthfully, neither one of us had the desire to try them until now (and even now only one of us had the desire).  They're healthy you know.  So we tried steamed Brussel sprouts with a little bit of butter, sea salt, and fresh dill.  And you know what?  They weren't bad.  In fact, hubby and I agreed that we'd definitely have them again.

Also on our plate were Oven Baked Sweet Potato Fries and Crab-Stuffed Mushrooms. We seasoned the fries with pumpkin pie spice and, wow, they were really good! Unfortunately, the mushrooms didn't do it for us.  They were a bit too heavy and the crab mixture didn't seem to go well with the portabello.  That's just our humble opinion.

The gardenia trees are blooming and it smells so pretty on the deck right now.  We're looking forward to more dinners here, just me and hubby and our two furry friends winding down at the end of the day.
